Family Sponsors

The amount allocated by the La Canada Unified School District to the Choral Music Department provides only enough for the Director’s salary and the accompanist’s school-day salary. It costs more than $250 per student in additional funding to support a program as strong as the one we have at La Canada High School.

Typically, the Choral Parents Association uses member donations, family and business sponsorships, grants, and fundraising activities to pay for essentials such as sheet music, the accompanist’s concert compensation, transportation, festival fees, instrumental musicians, piano tuning, classroom equipment and supplies, scholarships, clinicians, auditorium rental, custodial services, awards and programs.

During the 2020-2021 pandemic school year, the Choral Parents Association  designated monies raised through family sponsorships to support the following components of Dr. Brookey’s re-designed choral program:

  • hiring professional production services to create virtual choir projects

  • hiring three part-time vocal instructors to work individually with students

  • recording and production of online pops performances and classical recitals

  • subscriptions to online sight reading/musicianship modules for our students

  • purchase of new sheet music for all choirs

Given the year’s unusual circumstances, the 2020-2021 family sponsorship options were redefined. Rather than offer sponsorship “packages” with perks as we’ve done in the past, we established three suggested giving levels. 

The new sponsorship levels were:

Producer ($1,000)

Coach ($500)

Composer ($250)

To get a sense of where the dollars went, and how they shaped the experience of our students, consider the following:

  • Twenty (20) sponsorships at the Producer Level would enable choral students to participate in newly designed, professionally produced online pops concerts, classical recitals and an all-choir winter concert.

  • Forty (40) sponsorships at the Coach Level would make professional 1:1 vocal coaching available to all choral students.

  • Fifty (50) sponsorships at the Composer Level would provide new sheet music to all choirs, along with access to online sight reading and musicianship modules for every choral singer.

Every family sponsorship level includes one CPA membership, recognition on the CPA website, and mention in select digital performances. Sponsorship donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.  CPA Taxpayer ID#95-4760303

We acknowledge and respect that not everyone is capable of making a financial donation to the choral program at this time. For those who may be so inclined, however, we invite you to participate. The LCHS Choral Program will be a vital source of togetherness and inspiration for our children as we navigate this school year. Your support – no matter how large or small – makes an impact.
