New Parent Guide
Welcome to an amazing program! Not only does La Canada High School have some of the highest ranking choirs in the country, known nationally and internationally, but the hundreds of students that participate in the LCHS Choral Program each year foster an inclusive and compassionate environment that help our kids make friends that last throughout junior high, high school, and beyond. The Choral Parents Association is amazing, too. Come volunteer and you might make some lifelong friends, as well!
There’s so much that was covered at the Parent Meeting. Here’s a primer you can refer to later.

Wardrobe
Students are fitted for their choir wardrobe during the first two weeks of school. You should see your child’s wardrobe at home before the Parent Meeting. If you haven’t seen it, ask them where it is.
Instead of purchasing your child’s wardrobe and re-purchasing each time they grow or change choirs, we now use a rental program. For $75/year, your child rents their wardrobe. If at any point during the year they grow and need new wardrobe, they simply trade it in for a different size. Wardrobe is used for formal performances. For less formal performances, the singers perform in their choir-specific t-shirt or sweatshirt. The $75 fee also covers the cost of those sweatshirts and t-shirts and they are for the student to keep. If the student sings in more than one choir, no additional fee is required.
The wardrobe donation is paid via the Family Order form. See the Form section above for more information.
Jewelry is required for sopranos & altos in some choirs. The jewelry cost is extra and the jewelry is yours to keep.
In addition to the dresses or tuxedos the singers rent, parents must also provide black tights and closed-toed black dress shoes to go with the dresses and black socks, black dress shoes, and a long-sleeved white dress (not Oxford) shirt for the tuxedos. More information about the shoes and shirts requirements can be found on the Wardrobe page.
Much more information is available on the Wardrobe page, including information on hemming the wardrobe, cleaning the wardrobe, and how singers should wear their hair.
